Isabelle Desternes
Her art
Isabelle Desternes’ style as an illustrator is child-like – innocent and pure – yet discerning. Drawn with finesse, her characters and the stories they tell in a single drawing are perceptive, almost shrewd, sometimes funny and always gentle. They reveal something of what fuels her imagination : sensitivity, nostalgia and symbolism. At the center of their own tailor-made world, they seem to be sending a message of love, and of hope.
« Observing nature, the animals and other human beings. Drawing and reading in the garden. Sitting with the cats and sharing their silence. Making up stories during my walks. Not forgetting my childhood dreams… I have a fondness for drawing, imagining and observing what is around me and has the potential to stir me or awaken dreams within. My path is rooted in the simple ideas of the everyday, and in the experienced or guessed-at feelings of the people I meet. And then I pare it all down, to make it pure.”
